SEPANG: AirAsia staff have transformed the Peugeot 308cc white convertible that belongs to their boss Tan Sri Tony Fernandes into a vehicle to campaign against the increase in airport taxes.
The car parked outside the low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT) was plastered with posters reading “Say no to airport tax increase.”
An additional message on the bonnet reads: “Help Tony share the holiday spirit.
“Take a picture for beautiful, lasting memories.”
On top of the car was a miniature Christmas tree replete with decorations.
The car has proved to be an attraction at the LCCT with many travellers posing and taking photographs with it. They were urged to post their pictures on AirAsia’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
One Twitter user Hsu Jen, who goes by the handle serpentinegal, tweeted that “Tony’s car is taking a stand against rising airport taxes by MAHB. Complete w/ Christmas spirit.”
Yesterday, MAHB general manager for operations Datuk Azmi Murad said that the matter had been brought to his attention.
Azmi said that the increase in airport taxes had been a decision by the Government.
A spokesman for AirAsia said the aim of the car was to spread awareness about the increases to guests and travellers.
She confirmed that the car belonged to Fernandes.
She said it would be there “for a while”, and there were no plans to remove it yet.
