Improve security, kindies told

MUAR: Kindergarten operators and teachers here have been told to improve their security following the hostage drama.

Muar crime chief Deputy Supt Azahar Muda said they should always focus on security issues at their premises because they worked with children.

It would be good, he added, if all kindergartens were installed with security gadgets like CCTVs, safety alarms and proper fencing, and had security guards.

“We know these extra security measures involve money but we must try to find the funds to ensure that kindergartens are safe. We need to protect every child and staff,” he said in a meeting attended by 100 kindergarten operators and 50 teachers here yesterday.

In Johor Baru, state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Shariff said they were investigating if the man involved in Thursday's hostage incident was also linked to similar kindergarten attacks in Muar.

He added that police were comparing the man's fingerprints with those found at Tadika Sinario on March 10, last year and Tadika Warna Sari on Jan 13, 2009, where similar attacks were reported.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar said the man also had two previous records against him for drugs, adding that the body had been sent to a hospital in Malacca for post-mortem.
