LUMUT: One of the four fishermen who went missing after a cargo ship rammed into their boat in the Straits of Malacca off Sabak Bernam was found drowned in the boat’s engine room.
Region 1 Marine Operation Force Commander Asst Comm Zainul Abidin Hasan said the body of Tan Chong Peng, 45, from Simpang Empat, Bagan Nakhoda Omar in Sabak Bernam, was found at 10.45am yesterday.
It was sent to the Sabak Bernam Hospital for a post-mortem.
ACP Zainul Abidin said the search and rescue operation for the other three, including the skipper, continued.
The three are Ah Huat from Sungai Helang in Sabak Bernam, Ah No from Bagan Nakhoda Omar and Ah Cheng from Hutan Melintang in Perak.
The boat was towed to Hutan Melintang fishermen’s jetty yesterday.
On Thursday, two fishermen were killed when their fishing boat collided with the ship at 3.40am.
There were 17 crew members onboard the fishing boat.
Another fishing boat rescued 11 survivors of the sinking boat. — Bernama
