PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat is thankful that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was supportive of his efforts to investigate wrongdoings in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) issue and to bring the culprits to justice.
“It is clear that Najib is serious about having an administration that focuses on the people first,” he wrote in his blog yesterday.
Ong, who is also Transport Minister, said it was through Najib’s support that the PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services report was published and the subsequent investigations carried out on the PKFZ issue.
He said the probe into the PKFZ wrongdoings would not have come this far if he and Najib had tolerated or believed in cover-ups.
Ong added that Najib asked that he be kept updated on the progress of the investigations by the special task force and his ministry.
“This is about the people’s money, and Najib and I will not sacrifice our principles.
“We will do what is necessary to ensure that there is no cover-up, and that all fraudulent claims and wrongful actions be appropriately dealt with,” he said.
Ong said he was touched by the overwhelming support he had received via notes, letters, phone calls, SMSes and words of encouragement from MCA leaders, members and well-wishers on the way the PKFZ matter was pursued.
“What struck me was that most people demanded that transparency and accountability prevail in an issue that has become a national concern,” he said.
Ong said it was time for the Government to stand united and weather the challenges created by those who have personal agendas to pursue and vested interests to protect.
He said it was only with such solidarity that the Barisan Nasional government could usher in a new era of accountability and transparency under Najib’s leadership.
