PM: Paedophile list being mulled

MYT 2:31:16 PM

LONDON: The names of convicted paedophiles need to be made public, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The Prime Minister said there were benefits for making known such a list of child sex offenders although some people might not like it.

“But for those habitual offenders, they are aware that everybody will know once they are convicted by the courts,” he told Malaysian journalists after opening Limkokwing University United Kingdom in Piccadilly on Monday.

“If their names are made known in a list, to me, that isn’t exposing something which must be hidden,” he said when asked to comment on the need for a list of paedophiles in Malaysia to help curb sexual crimes against children such as the Nurin Jazlin Jazimin case

The eight-year-old girl's body was found stuffed in a sports bag at a shoplot in Petaling Utama on Sept 17, after she had gone missing on Aug 20.
