Work on bamboo park to begin soon

PENANG: Work on a bamboo park, the Penang Botanic Gardens' latest attraction, is expected to begin either in July or August.

State Tourism Development and Environment Committee chairman Teng Chang Yeow said it would take between three and four months to build the park, which would be at the former Coronation Camp site.

It is learnt that the park would be the biggest of its kind in the country.

“The park is part of the gardens' RM7mil expansion plan,” told reporters yesterday after the opening of the 17th Penang Floral Festival 2007 at the gardens.

He said the expansion, to be funded under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, would be completed by 2009.
