KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is still regarded as a human rights backwater due to the various preventive laws that affect freedom of expression, assembly, association and religion, said former UN special envoy to Myanmar Tan Sri Razali Ismail.
Given its modern economy and youthful demography, Malaysia should be scaling the heights of human rights which should be its strength and accomplishment, he said at the Culture of Human Rights in Malaysia forum.
