Johor hosts Shell Autoserv’s first car service centre

JOHOR BARU: The country’s first Shell autoserv car service centre was officially opened on Friday night, ushering in a new era of car servicing in Malaysia.

State Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs Enforcement director Sulaiman Salam represented minister Datuk Shafie Apdal in opening the centre at 17 Jalan Rosemerah 1/1, Taman Johor Jaya.

Shafie, in his speech read by Sulaiman, said the move by Shell autoserv to expand its operations in Malaysia was timely as the country’s rapidly growing car ownership had placed a premium on demand for high quality car servicing.

“Today’s car owners are quality conscious and demand expert service delivered in a professional environment at an affordable price,” he said.

Shell autoserv chief executive for the Asean region Sam Hanna said Johor was chosen as Shell autoserv’s maiden outlet in Malaysia since it was close to the Singaporean market.

“The concept works well in Singapore and we are getting assistance from the Singapore side to develop the concept here.

“We have invested US$1mil (RM3.8mil) on global research on the concept of car service centre and found that the Malaysian market is ready for the new dimension offered by Shell autoserv,” he added.

Hanna, who is also Shell Autoserv Malaysia general manager, said two more centres would be opened in Tebrau and Tampoi before the end of the year.

There are currently more than 300 Shell autoserv service centres worldwide.
