Furniture, electronics factories destroyed in fire

MELAKA: Two factories in Permai Merdeka Industrial Area, Batu Berendam, were destroyed in a fire on Tuesday (June 30) morning.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department director, Asst Fire Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Ma'at said another factory located next to the two factories was successfully saved by firefighters who arrived at the scene of the fire after receiving a distress call at about 6am.

"The fire involved two premises, one to store and sell furniture, the other to store electronic items, including LED lights and various plastic products, and both were almost 95 per cent destroyed,” he told reporters at the location of the fire.

A total of 57 firefighters and three fire rescue tenders, a water tanker and an aerial ladder platform were used in the firefighting operation, he added.

No casualties were reported and the operation has now entered the overhaul phase to ensure there was no fire source that could spark a fire, he said, adding that the cause of the fire and the losses were still being investigated.- Bernama
