KOTA KINABALU: Five armed forces personnel have been arrested by police in connection with the rape and murder of a Filipina whose naked body was found in a monsoon drain along Jalan Patau Patau in Labuan.

The military personnel based on the island were picked up on Sunday by police to facilitate investigations into the murder of 23-year-old Jojie Sariya Dagbay from Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines.

Sabah CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Mohd Bakri Zinin, in confirming the arrests yesterday, said that they were also waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death, although police were investigating the case under rape-cum-murder.

“We are still trying to establish the motive and as our investigations progress we might make a few more arrests to assist in our investigations,” he said.

Family members and friends identified Dagbay's body late Friday at the Labuan hospital after police recovered the body lying face down in the monsoon drain.
