PEKAN: Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah was conferred the rank of Brigadier-Jeneral of the Territorial Army’s 505th Regiment by his father during a ceremony at the Istana Abu Bakar grounds here yesterday.
Tengku Abdullah was elevated from the rank of Kolonel, which was awarded to him on June 1, 2000.
Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Tan Aminuddin Ishak, Army field command chief Lt-Jen Datuk Abdul Aziz Zainal and senior army officers.
Tengku Abdullah began his military career as a cadet officer at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, Britain, in 1978 and was commissioned as a Leftenan Muda by Queen Elizabeth II the following year.
He was awarded an honorary rank of Mejar in the Royal Armoured Corps in 1987.
In 1999, Tengku Abdullah was commissioned as commanding officer of the Territorial Army’s Regiment 505, with the rank of Leftenan Kolonel.
