KUALA LUMPUR: Parents must monitor the new and worrying occurrence where young girls are being lured and raped by men they befriend over the Internet, former deputy commissioner of police Datuk Mohamad Som Sulaiman said.

Mohamad Som, who was speaking at the “Mothers’ Tears: Women’s Nightmare (Violence Against Women)” seminar yesterday, cited a case last year of an 18-year-old girl who met up with a boy she made friends with through the chat room only to be gang-raped by him and his friends at Templer’s Park before being dumped in the bushes.
