THE pilgrimage to Mecca will be cheaper next year following the Government’s announcement that the cost of performing the haj will be reduced by 5%.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad said to check the increase in cost of accommodation, Tabung Haji would increase the construction and acquisition of accommodation in Mecca and Medina.
“Syarikat Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd will acquire two aircraft to cut the high leasing cost for Tabung Haji.”
The announcement followed calls from various parties to rein in costs.
The cost to perform the haj this year is said to be RM9,445 for Muslims from the peninsula, RM9,530 for those from Sarawak and RM9,575 for those from Sabah. – Bernama
