Higher growth in second quarter

GOOD Q2 GROWTH (Aug 28): The Malaysian economy grew by a better-than-expected 4.4% in the second quarter compared with the same period last year, at a time when the economy was struggling with the impact of SARS and uncertain external environment. Growth during the second quarter was markedly higher in all sectors except for the service sector. The strongest growth was seen in the mining and agriculture sectors, which grew by 10.5% and 10.45% respectively from a year ago. 

 

KEDAH SULTANAH DIES (Aug 27): Sultanah Bahiyah Tuanku Abdul Rahman passed away on Tuesday after a long illness. She died at 12.23pm at Istana Kuala Cegar, Alor Star. She was 73.
