MIRI: Police have beefed up public security after discovering graffiti with racial slurs in several parts of this town.

Miri Acting OCPD Supt Abang Abdillah has directed the CID and Special Branch to nab those responsible.

“These actions will not be tolerated. We don’t know the motive yet.

“We are viewing this very seriously as these are not normal acts of vandalism. We must warn the public that it is a serious offence to incite racial hatred or even suggest such things in public,” he said.

Police received complaints from the public yesterday after graffiti were found sprayed outside a bank, shopping complex, near a traffic intersection in the heart of town, at a housing estate and on the walls of a shop.

“Those with information on who could be responsible must contact the police immediately,” Supt Abang Abdillah said.
