Citrawarna Malaysia 2003 was launched on May 24 at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur with a colourful parade after which various events were held nationwide that showcased the country's wide variety of local arts and crafts, traditional music, dances and diverse culture.

Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir said this was the first time a closing ceremony was held for the Citrawarna Malaysia since the month-long event was introduced in 1999.
