ISKANDAR PUTERI: The government’s review of e-invoicing and the 2% Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contribution for foreign workers is heading towards deferring both, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
The Deputy Prime Minister said the Cabinet agreed on Wednesday (July 8) to review the two measures and the review was moving in the direction of postponement.
“On the e-invoice, I myself brought the proposal to the Cabinet meeting, and the decision was for the implementation to be reviewed, so that the burden on affected companies can be looked at again through the Finance Ministry,” he told reporters here on Wednesday (July 8) night.
He said the same applied to the 2% EPF contribution paid by companies that employ foreign workers.
“This was agreed by the Cabinet, meaning Barisan Nasional’s request was taken into account and approved by the Cabinet that met on Wednesday,” he said.
The Barisan chairman and Umno president said the Cabinet had agreed that the burden on companies hit by e-invoicing should be reconsidered by the government through the Finance Ministry.
On July 7, Putrajaya announced a grace period to allow businesses to amend their submitted e-invoices without penalty until Dec 31 next year.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the move is part of the government's new voluntary disclosure programme for e-invoicing that is aimed at reducing compliance costs for companies.
