76-year-old dies after car plunges into river in Segamat


SEGAMAT: A senior male citizen is believed to have drowned after plunging his car into Sungai Kenawar at Kampung Paya Lenga, near here.

Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue station operation commander senior officer I Mohd Faizal Mohamed Salleh said the incident took place on Wednesday (July 7).

“We received an emergency call in regard to the incident at 5.48pm,’’ he said in a statement.

Mohd Faizal said eight firemen together with an emergency medical response service (EMRS) and a Compact Fire Rescue Tender (CFRT) were deployed to the scene.

He said the operation team arrived at the site located about 5km from the station 5.53pm.

“The team used spinal boards and ropes to pull out the 76-year-old victim from the car, and he was declared dead at the scene,’’ said Mohd Faizal.

He said the victim’s body had been sent to Segamat Hospital by police vehicle and the operation ended at 7.46pm.
