TAMIL Nesan has urged local governments to focus on development projects that would provide better facilities for the people.
The daily in its editorial welcomed Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting’s call to local authorities to concentrate on development plans and provide quality services to ratepayers.
It added that development projects planned by local governments should match the nation's progress and changes adopted by the people.
The daily referred to the minister’s statement that amendments would be made in the Local Government Act to ensure that they provided quality services to ratepayers in line with the Government’s Vision 2020.
The newspaper also said that in planning projects, local authorities should not ignore the people’s welfare or create inconvenience, as this would lead to frustration and dissatisfaction among the public.
Both Tamil Nesan and Malaysia Nanban also reported on the meeting between Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jeyalalitha in Chennai, India, on Monday.
