KANGAR: The intake of bumiputra students into public universities this year under the meritocracy concept has dropped by 6.7 percentage points compared with last year.
According to figures released by the Education Ministry’s Higher Education Department yesterday, 62.2% of the candidates who gained admission into the 17 public institutions of higher learning for the June intake were bumiputras as against last year’s 68.9%.
