Muslims in Kelantan have been reminded not to wear clothes that exposed their aurat (parts of the body that must not be exposed in public in accordance with Islamic belief) or risk being fined RM1,000 or jail six months or both if found guilty. Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jaheaik) director Datuk Che Mohd Rahim Jusoh said the punishment is allowed under Section 5(1) of the state Syariah Criminal Enactment 1985. He said it was considered an offence under Islamic law for Muslim women to wear tight fitting clothing, short sleeves and not wearing headscarves. However, he reassured that non-Muslims would not be affected by the law. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Che Mohd Rahim said those who wore shorts, which exposed the knee, to play futsal will not be spared punishment if they were found to have flouted the Syariah Criminal Enactment.
