IN northwest Saudi Arabia near the Red Sea, a planned US$5bil data centre is set to offer enough computing muscle for deve­lopers as far away as Europe to train and build artificial intelligence (AI).

On the opposite coast, another multibillion-dollar complex is being designed for AI creators in Asia and Africa.
