PAKISTAN’S President Dr Arif Alvi formally approved Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s nominations for the country’s next army chief and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee recently.

Lt Gen Asim Munir is the new army Chief of Staff and Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza is Chairman of the Committee. The appointments capped weeks of intense speculation on the matter.
