WITH the passing of former education director-general Tan Sri Dr Wan Mohd Zahid Mohd Noordin on Sept 16, our education service has lost a visionary leader, an effective administrator and an admirable role model.

I am fortunate to have worked under Wan Zahid as the state science supervisor when he was the Negri Sembilan state education director in the early 1980s.
