Professional accountancy MoA inked

Professional pathway: HELP Academy chief operating officer and registrar Chong Weng Lian and Prof Zakaria with the MoA document.

THE Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with HELP Academy (HA) to allow students in Malaysia who are pursuing the University of Derby’s bachelor’s degree in accounting & finance to also study ICAEW’s accountancy qualifications.

The University of Derby’s BA (Hons) Accounting & Finance programme prepares students for the professional world by giving them a sound understanding of key accounting and financial principles.

Now with the MoA, students in the degree programme will be able to register as ICAEW students and study the chartered accountancy body’s accounting module, which will enable them to receive exemptions from certain exams and gain ICAEW’s Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) qualification. After gaining a year of work experience, students would then be able to study ICAEW’s Ethics Learning Programme, and acquire its Business & Finance Professional (BFP) designation. The Ethics Learning Programme is an important component of ICAEW, teaching students rules around confidentiality, integrity, objectivity and independence, and ensuring that they are able to identify ethical dilemmas, analyse situations and behave responsibly in the workplace.
