Once graduating from this course, the student can continue on locally at NUMed, opt to proceed in the UK at Newcastle University, or at another Malaysian higher education institution, depending on the final grades.

The programme builds the student’s study skills, enabling them to enter a degree-level education at any higher education institution, while introducing them to the practical experience of British university teaching methods.

The foundation programme also trains students to be competent in the English language and helps them develop confidence in communicating and learning in that language.

It also gives students the confidence to undertake self-evaluation, which helps them identify their additional needs.

The foundation programme has two intakes every year, in May and September.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

Once they graduate, students would be fit to practise as doctors, following the professional standards laid out by the UK General Medical Council and the Malaysian Medical Council.

With this programme Newcastle University aims to deliver an educational experience that covers sufficient range, depth and rigour to students in Malaysia. They would acquire the knowledge, understanding, practical skills, competencies and professional attitude required for them to experience the clinical practice first-hand, as a pre-registration house officer.

From there on, they would be able to build a sturdy career for their future.
