New Clinical School is launched

TAYLOR’S University is working closely with Hospital Sungai Buloh to introduce clinical psychologist services and psychiatry, focusing on child psychiatry.

Its deputy vice-chancellor and chief academic officer Prof Dr Pradeep Nair said the two areas have proven to be integral to the community’s wellbeing.

“While it is in the planning stage, I am positive the initiative will prove to be beneficial, ” he said at the launch of the university’s Clinical School.

Located next to Hospital Sungai Buloh, the relocation will see the school’s students undergoing clinical training with the hospital.

Practical training and experiences, he said, are critical in the holistic development of medical students as they transform from practitioners into healers.

“The new Clinical School is a modern and purpose-designed campus, focusing on student-centred learning.

“The capacity houses 350 students; we are now able to accommodate all clinical students in one space, as well as students from other health sciences courses to facilitate inter-professional learning.

“The combination of versatility with cutting-edge facilities aims to provide our students with a conducive environment, which will maximise their learning experience, ” he added.

The Clinical School is also focused on being the leading medical school within the next decade and to be recognised for its postgraduate research qualification in medical sciences, Pradeep said.

Taylor’s Clinical School students will benefit from experiencing clinical training in a safe, comfortable and motivating environment where their learning is supported by realistic medical scenarios, Hospital Sungai Buloh director Dr Kuldip Kaur said.

“For one to be successful as a medical practitioner, medical knowledge is only a part of the requirement.

“Other qualities that need to be cultivated include professionalism, empathy and keeping abreast with current developments in the field.

“As a doctor, the process of learning doesn’t end.

“Work with dedication and you will experience inner joy and immense personal gratification, which will give you job satisfaction, ” she said.

Taylor’s University school of medicine head Prof Rusli Nordin described the university’s Clinical School as a symbol of dedication and determination.

The new campus, he added, will provide the best of facilities in medical education.

Also present at the ceremony was former Selangor Health Department director Datuk Dr Khalid Ibrahim.
