Matriculation: The facts

FIRST, we would like to thank “Lost In Matriculation” (LIM) for bringing to our attention his/her confusion over the matriculation programme (StarEducation, Aug 10).

The programme was initially set up to prepare bumiputra students for entry to institutions of higher learning. It was opened to non-bumiputra students from the 2003/2004 session. Places are offered to students based on merit. The current session recorded 95,095 applicants of whom 15,140 were non-bumiputras. LIM is one of the lucky 20,026 accepted.
