Cops detain 13 foreigners in illegal gambling raids

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 13 foreigners, including five women, have been detained in separate raids at two illegal gambling premises in Kuchai Lama here

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the raids were conducted on Friday (June 23) from 4pm to 4.45pm.

"In the first raid, we detained a foreign man and three foreign women aged between 20 and 32 for not having valid travel documents. We seized a desktop, four laptops and a punch card machine," he said in a statement on Sunday (June 25).

In the second raid, seven foreign men and two foreign women aged between 21 and 39 were arrested, ACP Amihizam said.

"Police seized four desktops, a laptop, nine mobile phones, a modem and a router. We believe the foreigners did not have proper travel documents as well," he added.

Investigations showed both premises were used to manage and promote illegal gambling activities, he said.

"We are investigating under Section 4(1)(g) of the Open Gaming House Act 1953 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act.

"We advise the public not to be involved in illegal gambling activities.
