A factory technician and his wife have succeeded in a Tribunal claim for a refund based on unsatisfactory car repairs.
Zamri Jamien, 37, who attended the hearing on behalf of his wife Siti Hajar Ahmad, 36, said the couple had sent their vehicle to a workshop in Kluang, Johor.
“We sent a small, five-door car to the workshop for restoration on Oct 29, 2025,” he said of their 30-year-old car which was in fairly good condition and driveable.
He said they were quoted RM6,000 for an engine overhaul and paint job, and told the car would be ready in a month.
Zamri, who works in Singapore, made the first payment of RM3,000 on Oct 10 followed by another RM3,000 on Nov 7.
“A month passed, but my car was still not ready,” he said, adding that his wife used the vehicle to send their children to school and run errands.
The couple, who live in Johor Baru’s Gelang Patah, made several trips to Kluang to check on the progress.
“We demanded to know when the restoration would be finished, but the workshop owner just gave excuses without any assurance,” said Zamri.
He said they got fed up with the workshop owner’s attitude and took the car back on Sept 4 this year – almost one year after it was sent for restoration work.
“After picking up the car, there were a few problems like the engine sputtered, the speedometer and fuel gauge were not working and the air-conditioning wasn’t cold and was leaking water into the footwell,” he said.
“The paint job wasn’t what I expected,” he added.
The workshop later billed him RM13,000 although Zamri said he and his wife had not agreed to some of the repairs.
Tribunal president Hafez Zalkapli ordered the respondent to refund RM6,000 to the claimant within two weeks.
