Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has emerged champion and secured a five-star rating in the city category of the 2026 Local Authority Star Rating System.
Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi announced this achievement at the MBPJ full board meeting.
The city council received a RM1mil development grant, certificate and trophy at the Local Authority Convention and World Environmental Health Day Celebration in Penang, attended by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
“This success reflects MBPJ’s achievements in strengthening service delivery efficiency in areas including management, digital governance, integrity and anti-corruption measures, financial management, core services, customer management, community participation and residents’ feedback, as well as its ability to provide added value to the public,” said Mohd Yazid.
He said digital reform had contributed to an increase in revenue collection of more than RM1.5bil over five years, while helping to reduce operating costs.
He added that smart city management, which included the use of technologies such as smart traffic lights, smart bins and integrated command centres, was being utilised to boost city management efficiency, safety and response capabilities.
