Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is tabling a deficit budget of RM15.46mil for 2027.
Mayor Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi said the deficit had been reduced from RM25.6mil in 2026.
“We have kept the difference between income and expenditure small.
“This is a disciplined budget,” Mohd Yazid said during the presentation of MBPJ’s 2027 budget yesterday at Menara MBPJ.
The city council is expecting revenue of over RM516mil next year, with management expenditure of RM414mil and development costs projected at RM117mil.
The budget was planned after undergoing nine processes, he said.
“These processes gave residents the opportunity to provide their feedback and allowed MBPJ to gather input and come up with an appropriate budget.
“Feedback was received from MBPJ departments, online surveys, town hall sessions, budget retreats with department heads, and special budget meetings,” he said.
The budget has five focus areas namely spurring economic activities; safe, inclusive and sustainable city; human empowerment; environmental initiatives and service orientation.
MBPJ has allocated RM30.57mil for public amenity-related works. Of this amount, RM13.46mil is channelled for roads.
A total of RM17.11mil is allocated for maintenance of buildings and MBPJ-owned facilities.
The council has allocated RM7mil for the free feeder bus service and bus stops.
Of this, RM6.6mil is allocated to operate 26 free buses, comprising 20 diesel-powered and six electric vehicles.
Under the safe, inclusive and sustainable city category, the allocation stands at RM3.06mil.
For the environment, low-carbon and climate-resilience category, MBPJ will construct and upgrade infrastructure for rainwater outlets and flap gates at Jalan 51A/219, Jalan 51A/222 and Jalan 51A/223.
“Other projects consist of structures for the water-flow control system at Sungai Penchala and Sungai Kayu Ara, upgrading of the irrigation system at Kampung Chempaka and an on-site detention facility at Medan Selera Jalan 223.”
The city council has also allocated RM23.3mil for drainage management and flood control through 56 projects.
Slope upgrading works will receive RM3.83mil, including repair works at the Astaka Field in Section 52, Petaling Jaya.
Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakan welcomed the lower deficit budget.
“I am happy with the over RM22.5mil allocation for drainage maintenance, as it is double the amount allocated in 2026, which was RM12mil.”
