Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has collected 87.9% of this year’s assessment tax, paid by property owners in the city, as of Sept 24.
Mayor Datuk Zabidah Safar said MBSA had collected RM355mil out of the RM404mil due this year, close to the state government’s target of 90% by year-end.
“With three more months to go, we believe we can exceed the target,” she said at a press conference after chairing MBSA’s full board meeting yesterday at Wisma MBSA.
For arrears, unpaid assessment tax from previous years, she said collection stood at 56%, against the state government’s target of 70% by year-end.
Meanwhile, MBSA Engineering Department director Hanif Basree Abdul Rahman told StarMetro that open tenders for construction of three new pedestrian walkways along LRT3 would be called next month, with contracts expected to be awarded in November.
He said the tenders covered walkways along Jalan Plumbum (near Section 7 station), Persiaran Selangor (near UiTM station) and Persiaran Sukan (near Stadium Shah Alam station).
The walkways are expected to link Section 7 station to Jalan Plumbum commercial area; UiTM station to Section 16 residential area; and Stadium Shah Alam station to TTDI Sentralis.
Based on an MBSA working paper on the walkways provided to StarMetro, it is stated that more walkways are being built at three other LRT stations namely Dato’ Menteri, Kerjaya and Glenmarie.
The work is being carried out jointly by MBSA, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), Management and Science University (MSU), Public Works Department and private developers, with each responsible for different stretches.
