A cultural celebration and lantern parade drawing 500 participants brought the Mid-Autumn Festival to life at Sunway Velocity Mall in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
The “A Golden Reunion” festivities was launched at the mall’s Main Atrium, where Sunway Malls Kuala Lumpur marketing senior director Darren Chear spoke about the significance of reunions and togetherness during the festival.
“At the heart of the Mid-Autumn Festival lies the idea of ‘tuan yuan’ – reunion, completeness and togetherness,” he said.
Chear said the round shape of the mooncake was a symbol of wholeness and served as a reminder of the importance of reconnecting with family and loved ones.
The launch saw Sunway Velocity Joint Management Body chairman Ahmad Naquiddin, Sunway Velocity Mall leasing and asset management assistant manager Cannis Chong, Sunway Medical Centre Velocity business development and corporate communications head Bernice Koon and Sunway Hotel Kuala Lumpur brand marketing and communications assistant director Sabrina Foo placing decorative mooncakes into a festive display to symbolise reunion and completeness.
The ceremony officially marked the launch of the event, followed by a multiracial drum performance.
Sunway Velocity Mall also collaborated with bakery and butter cookie manufacturer Joymom’s to raise funds for Sunshine Disability Welfare Home.
Selected Joymom’s mooncake sets were available for shoppers to buy at a booth in the Main Atrium, with proceeds going to the welfare home.
The welfare home residents were also hosted at Verrona Hills for a special Mid-Autumn dinner before joining the lantern parade, which was the highlight of the evening.
Led by LED dragon dancers, diabolo performers, fan dancers and drummers, the procession made its way from the Main Atrium to Velo Garden.
The celebrations continued with performances by artistes Zane Wu, Atta Rumnan and Chloeyuz, followed by games and activities hosted at Velo Garden.
The festival featured over 30 mooncake brands across the mall, including the Moonlit Bazaar at the Main Atrium.
Shoppers could also redeem Mid-Autumn gifts based on their spending and stand a chance to win a three-day, two-night stay at Sunway Sanctuary.
