OVER 200 community members gathered at a celebration held in conjunction with National Day.
The Genting Group hosted employees and their families, along with B40 families, single mothers, children from welfare homes and senior citizens for a lively community celebration. The shared meal paved the way for meaningful connections, the company said in a media statement.
Established in 2019 through a collaboration between Genting and Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Medicine, the centre provides support for individuals living with dementia. The support extends to the individuals’ families.
It currently serves 28 participants and has the capacity to accommodate up to 50.
Meanwhile, its collaboration with What A Waste (through the Weekend Food Kitchen) has provided opportunities for Genting employees and their family members to volunteer their time to rescue surplus food, prepare meals and distribute them to communities in need.
Since the initiative began, 1,220 Genting employees and their family members had volunteered across 41 weekends, contributing to the distribution of 26,025 food packs to 6,484 recipients.
Speaking at the event, Genting Bhd chief executive, president and executive director Datuk Seri Tan Kong Han said, “On this National Day, we come together to celebrate the spirit of togetherness and care for one another.”
The centre came alive with laughter and activity as children enjoyed the games, families explored the carnival grounds and seniors joined in the festivities alongside fellow community members.
The occasion provided a meaningful opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to interact and celebrate the spirit of Merdeka, the statement added.
During the event, the KPJ Healthcare booth and the mobile clinic of National Cancer Society Malaysia offered basic health screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index and cholesterol checks, besides selected health assessments and health education.
Children took part in a colouring contest, games and entertainment activities at the event.
Colourful artwork was created during the colouring contest, while the best-dressed participants also received prizes.
A lucky draw and carnival games added to the festive atmosphere.
At the carnival grounds, single mothers and welfare groups showcased their products, giving participants the chance to discover community-made goods while supporting their income-generating efforts.
