Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has shortened the approval period for high-impact investments from 30 days to 25.
The first approval under its Speed Selangor@MBPJ initiative was granted to NXP Malaysia Sdn Bhd for the expansion of its smart manufacturing facility.
Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi said the initiative was introduced to streamline the approval process and facilitate investment.
“In the past, the documentation required for project submissions delayed the process.
“We have improved the engagement process to ensure all necessary documentation is provided.
“At MBPJ, we have a technical team that can help facilitate the process,” he said during a ceremony at MBPJ headquarters where the approval was given.
The NXP project involves the construction of a connecting bridge between its north and south campuses in the Sungai Way Free Industrial Zone.
Mohd Yazid said the project would strengthen Malaysia’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain, particularly in chip assembly, testing and packaging.
The Speed initiative also allows investors to carry out preliminary site works without waiting for final building plan approval.
“Once construction reaches 80% completion, MBPJ is prepared to issue a temporary business licence for six months, allowing machine testing to commence earlier.
“Subsequently, a full business licence will be issued within 24 hours after the Certificate of Completion and Compliance has been submitted, subject to compliance with the stipulated requirements,” said Mohd Yazid.
NXP Malaysia managing director Goon Ben Nee said the company submitted its plan on Aug 10 and received approval on Sept 4.
He said the project would create about 500 high-value job opportunities.
