New drinks a vibrant nod to Malaysian flavours

Celebrating local flavours, a hotel bar in Kuala Lumpur has launched two new drinks which will be available until Oct 31.

Botanist Lounge & Bar presents Sago Delight Rhapsody, a creamy, indulgent cocktail that combines vodka, fragrant pandan syrup, coconut milk, fresh lime juice and egg white, topped with sago.

Also on the seasonal menu is the Sunset Paradise mocktail, a vibrant nod to Malaysia’s national flower, the hibiscus.

The refreshing alcohol-free creation blends hibiscus syrup, lime juice, simple syrup and crisp soda water, and is garnished with fresh pomegranate seeds.

The cocktail is priced at RM48nett while the mocktail costs RM28nett.

The hotel bar manager, fondly known as Don, said the bar keeps its beverage options interesting by offering cocktails of the month alongside its regular menu.

“Among the regulars are five specially crafted cocktails, in addition to a wide selection of classics.

“These cocktails offer a twist on the classics,” he said.

Featuring stylish wood panelling alongside plush sofas and armchairs, the bar exudes tropical vibes.

Don said sustainability was a core concept at the bar in Parkroyal Collection Kuala Lumpur.

“Our signature cocktails incorporate locally sourced herbs and spices from the hotel’s little garden.

“This fruit-focused menu enables local produce, such as watermelon and passionfruit, to complement other locally sourced ingredients.”

Passionately Blooming is a visually appealing cocktail.

It employs passionfruit puree that sinks to the bottom of the highball glass, while a mixture of dry gin, elderflower syrup, lemon juice and soda water forms a lighter hue on top.

The Mixed Platter features chicken satay, prawn tempura, fried assorted seafood and nachos.

The cocktail offers tropical sweetness with a tart kick, as well as crisp botanical notes from the gin.

Another brightly coloured drink is the crimson-red Strawberry Sugar High cocktail, a luscious, berry-forward treat.

The combination of strawberry puree and cranberry juice takes centre stage alongside hints of vodka, while a touch of fresh lemon juice cuts through the sweetness.

Rum lovers can sample the refreshing Royal Punch, which combines watermelon, cucumber, lime juice, simple syrup and soda water.

Other signatures to try include the Picante Bonito, which combines tequila, pineapple juice, sweet and sour mix and Tabasco, as well as Florida Beach, which blends dry gin, rum, passionfruit puree, elderflower syrup, lemon juice and egg foam.

As for drink accompaniments, the Mixed Platter is a crowd-pleaser, featuring chicken satay, prawn tempura, calamari fritto misto (fried seafood) and nachos, complete with assorted dips for sharing.

For something more substantial, the house favourite is Honey-Miso Glazed Salmon, which features a generous portion of grilled fish.

It is paired with Japanese rice, avocado, mango, pickled onion and edamame.

The glossy honey-miso glaze offers a balance of umami from the fermented miso paste and sweetness from the honey.
