THE enforcement operation against stray dogs in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah was carried out by Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) following public complaints, says Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
However, he stressed that enforcement action should always be conducted with compassion and balance.
"There must be a middle ground on this issue. While some people are concerned about animal welfare, others are concerned about public safety," he said when asked to comment on the killing of a stray named Rocky during the city council's operation last week.
"The authorities take action based on complaints involving stray dogs. The government's priority is to safeguard the interests of the people.
"However, enforcement must not be carried out in a cruel manner," he said after launching the "Fly the Jalur Gemilang" campaign at the Auditorium Dewan Jubli Perak in Bangunan Sultan Abdul Aziz, Shah Alam.
Amirudin said the issue of stray dogs had also been raised by Pelabuhan Klang assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri during the Selangor State Assembly sitting.
The Mentri Besar added that the state government took public complaints and stray animal management seriously.
