Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) issued fines totalling RM15,000 to seven members of a management corporation (MC) for failing to hold its annual general meeting (AGM).
The compounds were issued by the city’s Commissioner of Buildings (COB) after the 2024 AGM was not held for the mixed commercial development.
Those penalised, following a complaint, included the MC chairman and committee members.
MBSJ, in a statement, said the compound was issued under the First Schedule (Compoundable Offences) of Strata Management (Compounding of Offences) Regulations 2019, read together with subsection 135(2) of Strata Management Act 2013.
Under this provision, the COB may impose a compound amount not exceeding 50% of the maximum fine prescribed for the offence.
The individuals have been given 14 days to settle the payment, failing which legal action will be initiated against them.
Upon conviction, they could face a fine of up to RM50,000, a maximum of three years’ jail, or both.
“MBSJ urges all joint management bodies (JMBs) and MCs that have yet to hold their AGMs to fulfil this statutory obligation within the prescribed timeframe under Strata Management Act 2013,” the city council said.
“The AGM serves as the primary platform for strata owners to deliberate and pass resolutions regarding building management and maintenance.
“Holding these meetings in an orderly and effective manner is crucial to resolving issues and ensuring the long-term well-being of the strata community.”
