A DELEGATION from Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) and representatives from academia, professional bodies and civil society organisations paid a courtesy visit to Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Astana Negeri Sarawak, Kuching.
The visit was aimed at strengthening strategic collaboration between MCPF and the state leadership in advancing crime prevention, community safety, public awareness and social well-being.
MCPF senior exco member and crime prevention club chairman Datuk Seri Johny Ch’ng Ewe Gee said it also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Sarawak’s efforts in fostering a peaceful, resilient and harmonious society through multi-sectoral partnerships.
Ch’ng said MCPF planned to organise several community engagement initiatives in the state.
“We also want to explore future collaboration in youth development, community safety and other crime prevention advocacy programmes.
“One of our main objectives is to promote greater cooperation among government agencies, educational institutions, civil society organisations and communities in preserving public order and social harmony,” he said.
During the meeting, the delegation briefed Wan Junaidi on MCPF’s initiatives around Malaysia focusing on crime prevention education, community outreach, youth empowerment, cyber safety awareness, and strategic collaboration with enforcement agencies and educational institutions.
Among the delegation were Prof Datuk Dr Paul Chan and Adam Chan from HELP University, MCPF exco member Datuk Kenneth Ch’ng, MCPF ex-officio Dr Rajan Thangaveloo and Sarawak MCPF secretary Leonard Sabu.
Prof Chan also shared HELP University’s aspiration to expand its educational presence in Sarawak through establishment of a campus that would contribute towards developing local human capital, research excellence and community engagement.
Wan Junaidi commended Sarawak MCPF for its continuous dedication in promoting crime prevention awareness, and encouraged the foundation to play an even more proactive role throughout the state, particularly in strengthening youth engagement, community education, and preventive initiatives.
The Governor also expressed his support for recent legislative developments that reinforced the shared responsibilities of parents and parent-teacher associations in addressing bullying in schools.
