Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will see a fresh focus on resolving long-standing community issues in Zone 9, with newly appointed councillor Ee Wei Ling pledging to work closely with residents.

Ee, who oversees Section 17A, Section 19 and SS20, said she would engage with residents in each neighbourhood to better understand their concerns and help address their needs.

“Each of these areas has a different demographic.

“I will approach the residents in all these areas, listen to their needs and help them as much as possible,” she said after her swearing-in ceremony at the MBPJ headquarters yesterday.

Among the key issues she will be monitoring is a carpark project.

She also said she would monitor the implementation of a landslide mitigation project in Kampung Damansara, Section 17A.

Originally from Johor Baru, Johor, Ee holds a law degree from Northumbria University in the United Kingdom as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia.

She also earned a scholarship from the Centre of Applied Data Science to receive executive education from Harvard Business School in Boston, in the US.

Ee said she had worked as a business and corporate legal consultant at organisations including startups, conglomerates, government-linked companies and multinational companies.

“I believe that I can serve the people more effectively with my diverse experiences,” said Ee, who has lived in Selangor for more than 20 years.

“I am currently a member of the board of directors of an orphanage, which I have served for six years,” she said.

Ee took over the position from former Zone 9 councillor Yip Sean Yi. Her tenure started on July 1 and will run until Dec 31, 2027.

Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon, who witnessed her swearing in, urged Ee to continue strengthening her collaboration with MBPJ staff members, community leaders, civil societies, private sector and the public.

“This is to ensure that all MBPJ’s programmes and initiatives can be effectively implemented.

“Leadership with integrity, responsiveness and focus on people are the key to achieve the ‘Happy and Sustainable Petaling Jaya 2030’ vision.”

Mohamad Zahri added that every decision made must prioritise public interest and uphold good governance principles to build public trust.

When asked about plans to fill the Zone 24 councillor position, he said the decision would be left to the Selangor government.

Zone 18 councillor Ahmad Akhir Pawan Chik is overseeing Zone 24, covering PJS5, PJS6, PJS8, PJS10 and a part of PJS7.
