TAMAN Persekutuaan Bukit Kiara in Kuala Lumpur will undergo further upgrades following requests from residents.

The improvements will include repairs to the park’s public toilets and replacement of ageing equipment at the children’s playground.

National Landscape Department (JLN) director Mansor Mohamad said a maintenance contractor had been told to repair damaged toilet doors.

“We have directed the contractor to carry out the repairs, and the work will begin as soon as possible,” he said in a statement to StarMetro.

Mansor said playground equipment would also be replaced to ensure it complied with updated safety standards.

“The upgrades will be carried out in stages, subject to budget approval and the procurement process,” he added.

The Taman Tun Dr Ismail Residents Association (TTDIRA) said in a social media post that its representatives had met JLN to discuss maintenance and upgrading works at the park.

Besides the toilets and playground, TTDIRA said a new pedestrian walkway would be built opposite Lorong Datuk Sulaiman 6.

Mansor said JLN would intensify monitoring to ensure the park’s facilities remained safe and well-maintained.

“We will conduct regular inspections to identify damage and potential safety hazards so that they do not pose a risk to visitors.

“We also urge park users to use the facilities responsibly and report any damage or acts of vandalism,” he said.

Asked about the park’s disused information centre, Mansor said it would be used as a temporary workspace for JLN personnel and there was no plan to reopen it to the public.

The park had recently reopened after a multi-million ringgit refurbishment, but many users were left disappointed with the changes.

Separately, Mansor said JLN had received reports of visitors releasing Red-eared Slider Turtles into the park, noting that the species is classified as invasive by the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).

“We have informed Perhilitan and are working with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to address the issue,” he said.
