Two non-governmental organisations donated several items to improve the quality of life of inmates at Sungai Buloh Prison.
CCEP Foundation trustee and chairman Alvin Yip donated a water heater, chess sets, pickleball equipment, congkak and carrom boards.
Persatuan Masyarakat Prihatin Zi Zai Yuan Kuala Lumpur chairman Chan Kim Hock contributed two water dispensers.
Yip said the donation of sports and recreational equipment was intended to give inmates an opportunity to exercise, build physical fitness and cultivate positive lifestyle habits.
“Different activities offer different benefits.
“Chess helps develop patience and critical thinking, while carrom enhances concentration and logical thinking.
“Ball games help relieve stress, encourage physical activity and allow inmates to enjoy sunlight and outdoor exposure, which is beneficial for physical and mental well‑being,” Yip elaborated.
He said several water heaters had become unusable after years of service, and hoped the new unit would help improve inmates’ daily living conditions.
“Through this visit and exchange, we gained a better understanding of the prison’s actual needs.
“We hope to continue offering assistance within our means,” he added.
Also present were CCEP Foundation chief executive officer Yvonne Yee and its chief operating officer Michael Lim.
