BUILDINGS in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, that are 10 years or older and have a minimum of five storeys must undergo inspection, according to Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
MBPJ deputy secretary (management) Mohd Fauzi Maarop said the city council had identified 388 such buildings, with 70% of them having started appointing building inspection consultants and submitting the required documents to MBPJ.
“Regular inspection is important to reduce the risk of collapse and fires.
“In line with Section 85a of Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, all owners are obliged to appoint consultants to inspect their buildings after receiving a notice issued under the Act.
“The consultants’ reports will then be checked by MBPJ to ensure compliance,” Fauzi said during the High-Performance Building Award Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.
Owners of 22 strata buildings in Petaling Jaya were recognised during the ceremony.
Each of them received a Certificate of Completed Inspection (CCI) in recognition of their efforts in carrying out regular building inspections.
Held alongside the award ceremony were several activities aimed at raising awareness of building management, including briefing sessions about building inspection and partitioning.
Present were MBPJ Building Control Department director Ismathinoon Abdul Rahman and Zone 18 councillor Ahmad Akhir Pawan Chik.
