24-hour facility for delivery riders opens in KL

FOOD and parcel delivery riders now have a dedicated space to rest and recover at D'Tebing, a hawker centre managed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) at Bulatan Dato Onn.

The 24-hour facility has gazebos located by the banks of Sungai Klang, mobile phone charging stations, prayer rooms and comfortable waiting areas.

It was launched by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud.

Giving his thumbs up was Muhammad Zarif Haiqal, one of 70 delivery riders present at the launch.

“I work 12-hour days with only a half day off every week. This rest stop is a place for me to recharge, or even take a short nap.

“Due to the long hours, we delivery drivers can sometimes experience microsleep, which is very dangerous when one is on the road.

"As I pack my own food from home it also gives me a place to have my meal break,” he said.

Yeoh said the rider community is one of the key catalysts of the urban economy.

"Urban development focuses not only on providing physical infrastructure but also on ensuring that those who contribute to the seamless daily lives of city dwellers can enjoy facilities that are comfortable, safe, and suited to their needs."
