A TOTAL of RM23mil has been raised for the construction and development of a Chinese vernacular primary school in Sepang, Selangor, through a fundraising concert attended by 600 guests.
SJK (C) Sunsuria, to be built on a 2.83ha plot, is targeted for completion by 2027 with 24 classrooms, two special education resource rooms, two science laboratories and a design and technology workshop.
SJK (C) Sunsuria construction committee chairman Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap said they were now close to reaching the targeted RM26mil needed.
“From the school’s facilities and learning environment to its logo, motto and song, every aspect has been thoughtfully planned to nurture academic excellence alongside a strong school culture grounded in values, character and a sense of belonging,” he said during the concert themed “Echoes of Melody” at Xiamen University Malaysia in Sepang, Selangor.

Ter said education was a long-term venture in nurturing talents to contribute to the nation’s development.
“What we do today will become the nation’s hope in the future,” he said.
Also present was Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh who said SJK (C) Sunsuria was among 10 Chinese vernacular primary schools approved for construction by the Government in 2017.
Of the 10 schools, five are in Selangor and Wong hopes they will be built by 2027.
“In May 2024, Education Minister Fadlina Sidek and I jointly launched the groundbreaking ceremony for SJK (C) Sunsuria, making it the first among the five schools to officially commence construction.

“Later that same year, SJK (C) Gamuda Cove also broke ground,” he said.
The other three schools – SJK (C) Eco World, SJK (C) Lee Loy Seng and SJK (C) Too Joon Hing – were also making good progress, he added.
Wong expressed hope that the construction of Chinese vernacular primary schools could be gradually incorporated into the national budget and Malaysia Plan to institutionalise their development.
“The Government has already included the relocation project of SJK (C) Aik Hua in Terong, Perak, in the 2026 Budget and the 13th Malaysia Plan, meaning it will be fully funded by the Government.
“We hope that this marks a beginning for more progress in the future,” Wong added.

During the concert, guests were entertained by various performances, including a 24 festive drums group, choir and an a cappella ensemble.
Hong-Kong based actress and singer Puan Sri Chelsia Chan and Hong-Kong born erhu virtuoso and music producer Chu Wan Pin also made an appearance.
SJK (C) Sunsuria’s logo, motto and song were also unveiled during the concert.
Mock cheques of donations by various parties were presented too, with Ter donating RM5mil to the school.
Also present was Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing.
