STUDENTS at two local schools are set to receive a major high-tech boost after being selected for a new digital learning initiative by OCBC Bank Malaysia.

The bank’s Penang and Batu Maung branches have officially adopted Kolej Vokasional Batu Lanchang and SMK Batu Maung under its newly launched Adopt-A-School programme.

The nationwide initiative aims to strengthen Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology-related skills among students.

The bank has committed RM1mil annually to support 40 schools, with each branch adopting a school for a minimum of three years to ensure long-term community impact.

OCBC Bank Penang and Batu Maung branch manager Nicolas Goh said the Penang initiative targeted tomorrow’s tech needs.

“Our focus here is on strengthening digital learning infrastructure, particularly in AI and digital media, so that students are better equipped with the skills needed for a technology-driven future,” Goh said.

At Kolej Vokasional Batu Lanchang, the bank is sponsoring a state-of-the-art greenroom.

The multi-functional space will support green-screen technology, interactive teaching, and AI-enabled demonstrations.

At SMK Batu Maung, the funding will upgrade the school’s digital resource centre and TVPSS (school television) studio to sharpen students’ creative and content-production skills.

Kolej Vokasional Batu Lanchang principal Nazhar Kader Bawa said the greenroom would benefit up to 500 students through hands-on tech training and digital presentation activities.

SMK Batu Maung senior assistant Nor Azizi Abdullah Sani said the physical improvements would complement the digital tools to foster better reading habits and creative confidence. – By LO TERN CHERN
