Local mixologists reimagine popular cocktail

The Monkey Ume will be served at Enso Izakaya and Bar.

MONKEY Shoulder Scotch whiskey is putting a bold spin on one of the world’s favourite cocktails − the Old Fashioned − this May.

The brand invites bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts alike to discover a classic with a twist, reimagining the whiskey through creativity and a spirit of doing things differently.

Mixologists from four bars across the Klang Valley have injected their own take on the Monkey Old Fashioned.

They are: Sheldon’s Shoulder (Three X Co), Snicker’s Monkey Fashioned (Frank’s Bar), Ceylon Fashioned (Benang, The Second Chapter) and Monkey Ume (Enso Izakaya and Bar).

Each interpretation showcases Monkey Shoulder’s versatility while highlighting the creativity behind every serve.

Created by malt master Brian Kinsman using only Speyside single malts, which are aged in the William Grant & Sons warehouses in first-fill bourbon casks, Monkey Shoulder is crafted with the Old Fashioned in mind, offering a fresh take on the classic that brings a fuller taste profile to the cocktail.

“Monkey Shoulder was born to challenge tradition, and this is our way of celebrating one of the most iconic cocktails of all time, the Old Fashioned, by giving it our own spin,” said regional brand ambassador Brendon Khoo.

“We celebrate the craft of bartending and encourage bartenders and cocktail lovers alike to experiment and stir up something different with the Monkey Old Fashioned.

“They might just end up creating a new classic of their own,” Khoo added.

From high-energy nights to easy-going hangs, each participating bar brings its own personality to the experience.

Guests can visit participating bars across the Klang Valley to try the Monkey Shoulder Old Fashioned, or craft their own Monkey Lazy Old Fashioned at home.

A QR code is also available at selected retailers to explore how to make the cocktail.
