HUNDREDS of participants competed across three gaming categories over two days in the Shah Alam Esports Championship 2026 in Selangor.
The tournament held at Central i-City was organised by Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and featured PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and EA Sports FC 26 competitions.
Shah Alam deputy mayor Safriah Md Adzhar, who launched the event, said e-sports had grown beyond being a mere pastime and had become a major industry contributing to various aspects of development.
MBSA organised the tournament to engage youths from Shah Alam and the Klang Valley.
Safriah said the gaming landscape had evolved alongside technological developments and expanded into digital competition.
“Today, mental agility, quick reflexes and strategic precision have shifted into the digital arena that we know as e-sports.”
She added that e-sports should not be viewed as merely playing video games, as it required a high level of discipline, teamwork and extraordinary mental resilience.

Safriah said the tournament enabled youths to compete in a positive environment while promoting integrity and sportsmanship.
She said it aimed to encourage talent development while strengthening community ties through positive activities.
The tournament offered a total prize pool of RM10,000.
PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang each offered RM4,000 in prizes, while FC26 offered RM2,000.
MBSA received 64 entries for the PUBG Mobile category, 32 entries for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and 64 entries for FC26.
Also present were MBSA deputy secretary (management) Shahrin Ahmad and MBSA zone six councillor Mohd Firdaus Mokhtar.
