S’gor forms task force on Iran war

Ng: Engagement sessions to be held with industry players.

A SPECIAL task force has been set up to assess the impact of the Iran war on Selangor, as part of efforts to mitigate its effects.

State investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the group consisted of experts in economics, finance and the oil and gas industry to comprehensively assess the impact of the crisis.

“We will also monitor supply chain and food security, especially food and energy supplies, while monitoring the price of goods to ensure market stability.

“Engagement sessions will be held with industry players to ensure this conflict does not have long-term effects, particularly on small and medium enterprises (SMEs),” he said during the Selangor State Assembly sitting in Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor, Shah Alam yesterday.

He was replying to Ong Chun Wei (PH-Balakong) who asked on measures to minimise the effects of the said conflict.

Besides increased logistics and insurance costs that lead to rising goods prices, Ng said disruptions in shipping operations could also affect production.

“It will interfere with production schedules and delivery commitments to international customers.

“The worst-case scenario for the industry would be facing order cancellations,” he added.

Ng also said Selangor’s trade performance was expected to maintain a positive momentum despite the global impact of the Iran war.

“The state’s trade performance has been on a positive trajectory since the country recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Selangor recorded a trade value of RM769.9bil which increased by 12.3% to RM864.48bil in 2024, and further rose by 9.1% to RM943bil in 2025.

“This total is more than double the trade value during the Covid-19 crisis year, which stood at only RM398.3bil in 2020,” he said.

In replying to Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim (PH-Kota Damansara) regarding measures to ensure competitiveness among private sectors, Ng said it was vital for companies to expand into a larger market.

“Actually, most companies in Selangor have strong energy and technology capacity to grow into the global market,” he said.

“In fact, Invest Selangor is expected to hold the Selangor International Business Summit in Bandung, Indonesia, in July.

“This is part of efforts to help Selangor companies tap into the South-East Asian market.”

Meanwhile, Selangor will also engage with industrial players such as PETRONAS, to get a clearer direction to address the crude oil supplies.

“We have received feedback on the raw material shortage and will meet with stakeholders to see how to move this forward,” he said, replying to a supplementary question by Pua Pei Ling (PH-Bukit Lanjan) regarding the supply chain for plastics in the state.
